#20 We're Late For Class - A Collection

A greatest hits? Are you guys kidding? Well... sorta. It's just that with 19 posts of original, improvised music (and a Faust cover), who in their right mind is going to weed through it all to hear what we're up to? Certainly not you! So, for those curious about stoned improvisors who give away their music, here are some of our more tolerable jams. If you don't like this well-sequenced set of drug-induced space hymns, then you'll know to ignore the rest or our shit and get back to downloading the new Fall Out Boy. We didn't have room for our 40 minute psych/dirge excursion, "'Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun' As Played By Vanilla Fudge Imitating Iron Butterfly When Fudge Were Forced To Open For Butterfly At The Fillmore West After In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida Went Top Ten." So just click on the title for that. Haight-era bong hits not included. We hope you like it, share it, spread the word and come back for more. Listen to any and all tracks in full or download the entire 75 min collection below (including the nifty, I've-seen-the-future-of-online-music-cover-art, animated .gif).

Burden Bearers (Of Aristocracy) (4:54) #15
(Hand Me That) Revolutionary Coat (5:50) #2
(Another) Summer Of Heigel (8:22) #9
Theme To John Carpenter's King Heroin (9:07) #12
Blunt Force Trauma (Unit) (9:42) #14
Fukhausen (Excerpt) (2:22) #3
Tommy Reese's DTs (Relapse) (11:42) #4
A Buoy, 40 Yards Out (8:20) #19
Final Moments Of Barry Cowsill (Redux 4) (10:08) #14
It's A Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl (4:56) #13

Got your post up here:http://infinitefool.blogspot.com/2008/01/you-might-remember-us.html

Now when are you gonna make an old Fool happy with an album of Kansas covers? Foghat? How about Styx?

Marcus said...

Nice work guys. The second track Burden Bearers of Aristocracy impressed me the most. I will be sure to post it up and spread it around any other way i can in the next few days. On another note i was wondering if there is a hard album cover, as apposed to the gif?

Wish you folks all the best.

On another note,

i'm a big fan of the sleeve designs for your 20 or so EP's. Just wondering why you guys felt a gif was in order for the album? Your Sitting On The Altimeter for instance i felt was very creative. Perhaps a design could be used for the album in the future?

Just a suggestion.

Hey Guys,

A thousand thanks, Leonel. Just downloaded your original "Unfinished Report of Last Year's Report." Looking forward to hearing it.

Mr. Fool... thanks once again for giving us some space on your mighty blog. But... Styx, Kansas and Foghat covers? Are you sure? We can only assume you must hate those bands if you want US to cover them. We may need to make a special trip to Amsterdam to take those bands on.

Marcus... many thanks for the space. It's VERY appreciated. And, thanks for all the kind words and the tip on the cover. We were so excited about making a "moving" cover, we didn't even think about making a normal one. Here's the link for a non-animated version for anyone interested (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x217/werelateforclass/WLFC20ACollection2.jpg).

As for "why a gif?" Did you get a look at our previous cover, "What Might This Signify?" We just thought we needed to do something spiffy for #20. Record covers USED to be 12 inches. Then they went down to 5 inches on CDs. Now, online, they're barely an inch or two. We just wanted something noticeable. Are gif album covers old hat already? We're behind the curve sometimes. Thanks for checking out our past stuff. It's all downhill from here.

Hello there. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog A Closet of Curiosities. I wrote a post about you and also added your link as a "favorite blog". Sorry, I couldn't get the animated gif to work. I liked what I heard so far from the divShare player and I'm looking forward to adding your music to my hard drive and my portable MP3 player. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes.

We're Late For Class said...

Hi Grey,

Fantastic. Thanks for the plug and the kind words. Since we work in lieu of $$ we really appreciate it. You've got a great blog over at Closet. Some really offbeat stuff that we need to make some room on the hard drives for (like that Toshio Hosokawa). We plan to take a crack at Vexations, too. Thanks once again.

Any chance of a reup.Looking forward to ~20 and beyond.Yours scav

read 'downloading from #1 upwards' it's early i'm tired.Too lazy to check what i've typed. My nose has started bleeding,i'm dribbling.

We're Late For Class said...

Hi Scav,
Thanks for all the nice things you've said. We'll use the "legends" quote in our press pack. As for les rallizes denudes, we won't be hijacking any planes any time soon, though. We checked #6 and the links are fine. You can grab it from the MP3 player or the Sharbee "download" link (at least 3 of the 4 are working). Compulsive types are the best, but we probably shouldn't tell you about the vinyl versions, Japanese issues and Deluxe versions with bonus tracks with mini LP replica covers that are on the way. We don't want you to explode, or anything. Regards,
WLFC

Please excuse the boilerplate nature of this note:

As a friend (and I am your friend), I want you to be among the first to know that I've decided to run for President of the U.S. of A. You can find all the details (and a nice musical bribe) here:
http://infinitefool.blogspot.com/2008/01/important-announcement.html

I hope I can look forward to your support over the next few months. In return please expect a night or two in the Lincoln Bedroom with the hollywood actor/actress of your choice (just pick a person or people and a date after the inauguration and I'll have the IRS do the rest).

There may also be cabinet positions available for the highest bidders, er strongest supporters.

Vote early, vote often!

P.S. I've got you guys down as the headliners for my inaugural concert. Keep the date open.

You do own tuxedos, right? Or at least those nutty, nutty tuxedo t-shirts?

If you're really good, I'll let you dance with Cheney during your breaks. Now there's a guys whose mouth you'll want to keep your fingers clear of.

Dear Tardy Students
I'm downloading this as we speak. Oh, I've been aware of you rascals for some time, but kept my forehead-attached rubber-tipped stick off the download for a couple of cogent reasons:
- Musical altruism results in lack of piratical buzz of stealing someone's work. I don't want you doing me favors, unnerstan'?
- Too Much Of A Good Thing
A very wise man (Handsome Dick Manitoba) once said that, to him, "Quantity is quality", which may well serve as an album title for you sometime your smarts are in abeyance. Jeez, frat-guys, I'm surprised you remember where class is, you're pushing the envelope of sound so often.
Apart from that and those, many thanks for your bold internet initiative, and I hope your radical music-should-be-free stance will garner you all a good living in the near future. Just before we have individual autogyros but after 2-way wrist radios.

Your internet chum -

Pants Elk

Damn you all to hell! It's better than I thought! Why, I think you have something here - hmmm - improvizzzzed music, you say? Drug use? It's a compelling combination for today's teen in search of kicks n'truth!

The only thing I'm antsy about is your injunction to TURN UP MY MP3 PLAYER. If I do that, it's TOO LOUD, and if it's too loud I'm TOO OLD. Apart from that - keep away from class. You have enough already.

We're Late For Class said...

Thanks Mr. Elk,

Lots of weird compliments... but we'll take 'em because we get so few.

As for the "too loud, too old" point, remember this... you're only "too old" when you can't hear anything at all. So you're OK. Right now, it just sounds like you're old enough to know better.

Thanks for drinking the Kool-Aid.

Great stuff! My roomates and I have been trying to get a similar project going but I think we need to sober up for a bit first or learn to work with the permanent intoxication. I wanted to ask, though: where are you guys based out of?

We're Late For Class said...

Hi Virus,

Thanks for listening. As for sobering up to make noise, that's only important if you want something resembling a career (that's not our mission). If you just want to jam, all you need to do is make sure everything is tuned and all the equipment is ready to go BEFORE you guys get wasted. That's the best advice we've got.

We know what you're talking about, though. If we straightened up a bit, we'd surely play better... but would it be as much fun? As for geography... we decided early on that if we were going to publicly promote our activities and vices, it would be smarter, considering our surroundings, to not draw to much attention to our physical selves. You know how some scholastic organizations are. So we’re keeping mum on that point.

Send us something when you can.
